چکیده
Scenario: The following ECG waveform was obtained in an 85-year-old male patient admitted to the telemetry unit for evaluation of syncope. His pertinent medical history includes hypertension, coronary artery disease, and prior inferior/lateral myocardial infarction (MI). ECG PUZZLER A regular feature of the American Journal of Critical Care, the ECG Puzzler addresses ECG interpretation for clinical practice. We welcome letters to the Editors regarding this feature.

An irregular atrial tachycardia
There are clearly visible P-waves in most of the leads (Fig. 1). The P-waves are negative in leads DII, DIII and aVF. Hence, this is not a sinus rhythm. All the P-waves have the same morphology, constant PP interval at a rate of 210 beats per minute (bpm), with an isoelectric baseline between them. Therefore, the underlying rhythm is unifocal atrial tachycardia [1]. Lead DII shows 12P-waves, bu...
متن کاملTransient unexpected improvement of AV conduction: What is the mechanism?
This ECG was recorded from a 93 year old patient with a previously documented third degree AV block and an underlying LBBB. The twelve lead ECG demonstrates sinus bradycardia at a rate of 52 beats per minute, a PR interval of 230 milliseconds, and a left bundle branch block (Figure 1). In figure 2, a rhythm strip of leads V1, II and V5 shows sinus rhythm with AV block. Note that only P waves in...
متن کاملارزیابی اثرات سیستم سروتونرژیک بر زمان خواب در رات: بررسی با دو روش رفتاری (Sleeping time) و الکتروفیزیولوژیکی (EEG)
The phenomenon of sleep is an active nervous and biologic rhythm, which is under influence of neurotransmitters of central nervous system. In this study, the influence of serotonergic system on sleeping time have been assessed by agonist-antagonist drugs using two methods of induction and non-induction behavioral and electrophysiology. The method used for measurement of total sleeing time was A...

Background: The increasing use of telecommunication devices such as Wi-Fi modems and mobile phones in the recent years can change the cellular structure of microorganisms so the generation of electromagnetic waves has led to concern in the community whenever be exposed to these fields and may have harmful effects on human health.Material and Methods: Standard strains of bacteria were prepared o...
متن کاملGeneration of Love Wave in a Media with Temperature Dependent Properties Over a Heterogeneous Substratum
The present paper deals with the generation of Love waves in a layer of finite thickness over an initially stressed heterogeneous semi-infinite media. The rigidity and density of the layer are functions of temperature, i.e. they are temperature dependent. The lower substratum is an initially stressed medium and its rigidity and density vary linearly with the depth. The frequency relation of Lo...
